Goal of a No-Kill Animal Shelter Draws One Step Closer Supporters, Volunteers, and Officials gathered recently for a joyful celebration: the formal dedication of the site that will serve as home for Delaware’s first No Kill animal shelter. The idea has gained tremendous support expressed in the remarks at the site dedication from a wide range of elected officials. “What you’re doing is a great thing,” said U.S. Senator Tom Carper. “You’re creating a safe haven for animals that deserve to be safe not only for the sake of their lives but because they also touch the lives of so many people.” Award-winning architect David Quillin’s “green” building will be the first structure in Sussex County to meet standards set by the U.S. Green Building Council, a Washington, D.C. nonprofit organization that established a system known by its acronym LEED, for Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design. |

Instead of the traditional “shovel dig,” dogs of Safe Haven supporters and volunteers dug and dedicated the site that will benefit their canine & feline friends in the future. |

The Pohanka Automotive Group has included Safe Haven Animal Sanctuary in their recently unveiled “Pohanka Pays It Forward” sales incentive program because Safe Haven continues
to strieve to provide a safe and caring environment for homeless, neglected, abused and orphaned cats and dogs in Sussex County. Safe Haven relies heavily on the charitable contributions of the greater
Delmarva community and with the country’s retreating economy Pohanka is pleased to announce wide support of Safe Haven.
Safe Haven volunteers, Robert and Gina Fries, who foster dogs along with their daughter Raechel,
say good-bye to their charge, Shadow, as he prepares to travel to New Hampshire to find a home. Shadow's brother also traveled with the group driven by Anne Gryczon, Safe Haven director. The transport
also included other Safe Haven dogs as wellas dogs from our partner shelter, Faithful Friends of Wilmington, DE. Some of the dogs were former chained dogs and some were Pit Bulls. Anne’s dog
Pax, a former shelter dog himself, went along for the ride. If you would like to volunteer to foster puppies and/or dogs before they go north, please call 302-519-4317. If you would like to make a donation
to help more dogs,
The wonderful staff and volunteers of the Lakes Region Humane Society in New Hampshire
warmly welcome Sussex County and Delaware dogs, who are now all adopted into loving homes. Safe Haven has launched its Dog Transfer Program – to save the lives of former shelter and chained dogs
and relocated them to Safe Haven Partner Shelters in the Northern New England region. Safe Haven is seeking the donation of a Cargo Van to make more frequent trips and save more lives. If you or someone
you know can help, please call 302-519-4317. If you would like to make a donation to help more dogs
Safe Haven "No-Kill" Animal Sanctuary continues its
Trap-Neuter-Return (TNR) programming for feral/stray/farm cats. This is the most humane and effective way of helping, protecting, and reducing the number of homeless cats. The
Murphy family has been kind enough to help the stray cats who have wandered unto their farm over the years. Safe Haven used a combination of it's allocation from the State Department of
Agriculture Spay/Neuter Fund for Feral/Stray animals, along with a contribution from a generous private donor, to spay the female cats on the Murphy property.
The Town of Greenwood, Safe Haven Animal Sanctuary and the Sussex Mobile Feline Spay Neuter Clinic have partnered to protect feral/stray cats in the town by implementing the most humane and effective way
of helping them and reducing their numbers through Trap-Neuter-Return (TNR).Pictured (L to R): Roger Level, SMFSNC Administrator, Doris Adkins, Greenwood
Town Manager, Dr. Janie Weise, SMFSNC Veterinarian, Diane Manville, SMFSNC Vet Assistant and Anne Gryczon, Safe Haven Director, at the first Town of Greenwood-Safe Haven Feral Cat Spay/Neuter Clinic in
September 2008.Please see

Mackenzie and Isabella Baldwin and their friend, Samantha Rim joined forces to help raise funds for Safe Haven. According to their grandmother and Safe Haven volunteer, Diane Baldwin, the three girls decided on their own that they wanted to have a lemonade stand with all donations going to a dog and cat charity. This is what they included on their sign along with a note that the lemonade was free and all donations would go to an animal-related charity.
